Paneer butter masala is one of the most loved North Indian paneer recipes because it brings restaurant style richness into a vegetarian format that still feels comforting and familiar.
This version uses paneer cubes in a smooth tomato butter gravy with cream, ginger, garlic, and warm spices. The sauce is rich but not heavy, which makes it suitable for family dinners and festive meals alike.
Ingredients
- 250 grams paneer
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 tablespoon oil
- 1 onion, chopped
- 3 tomatoes, pureed
- 1 teaspoon ginger garlic paste
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- 1 teaspoon coriander powder
- 1/2 teaspoon garam masala
- 1/4 cup cream
- Salt to taste
Method
Cook the onion in butter and oil until soft, then add ginger garlic paste. Stir in the tomato puree and spices and cook until the masala thickens and loses its raw edge. Add a splash of water if needed, then finish with cream and paneer cubes. Simmer gently for a few minutes so the paneer stays soft.
Serve paneer butter masala with naan, chapati, or jeera rice for a classic Indian vegetarian dinner.
